New for 2015
For the 2015 model year, the Honda Pilot gains a new Special Edition trim, slotting between the EX and EX-L. The SE includes pewter-gray aluminum-alloy wheels, a power moon roof, XM satellite radio, and a DVD rear-entertainment system.
Brimming with Confidence
Shoppers looking for a confident and competent SUV need look no further than the 2015 Honda Pilot. As Honda’s largest SUV on offer, the Pilot mixes tidy handling with outstanding versatility—all while delivering the same level of quality and comfort Honda is known for. Throw in seating for up to eight-passengers and the Pilot is the consummate choice for families or shoppers who lead an active lifestyle.
Powertrains and Performance
The 2015 Honda Pilot is powered by a solitary 3.5-liter V6 that generates a hefty 250 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard; however drivers can opt for the added sure-footedness of all-wheel drive.
Of course what good would an SUV be if it couldn’t haul your favorite toys? Thankfully, the 2015 Honda Pilot is more than up to the task. A front-wheel drive Pilot can top up to 2,000 pounds, while all-wheel drive models can tow up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped.
EPA-estimated fuel economy is also strong in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models. FWD models deliver 21 mpg combined (18 city/25 highway),* while AWD models deliver 20 mpg combined (17 city/24 highway).*
Trims and Features
The 2015 Honda Pilot is available in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, SE (which is new for 2015), EX-L, and Touring.
Starting at $29,870,** the base Pilot comes handsomely equipped with 17-inch wheels, a trailer hitch, and keyless entry. Other highlights include 60/40-split-folding second- and third-row seats (sliding and reclining for the second row), and Bluetooth® audio and phone connectivity. Rounding out the LX trim is an eight-inch display, seven-speaker sound system, and USB/iPod interface.
Drivers seeking even more amenities would do well to explore the Pilot’s other trims. For example, EX models add larger 18-inch wheels while SE models get 18-inch wheels and a rear-seat entertainment system. Of course, if those goodies aren’t enough, the range-topping Touring model adds front and rear parking sensors and roof rails, which are perfect for outdoor adventuring.
Exterior/Interior
From the outside, the 2015 Honda Pilot is strong and stoic. It’s not overwrought with superfluous curves or unnecessary brightwork, with Honda opting to go the traditional square frame route instead. Which is more than fine. The Pilot is about getting the job done and getting it done well. And while it’s exterior may not be as eccentric as other crossover models, drivers will surely appreciate this more straightforward approach.
The interior is also another study in efficiency. Here, you’ll find logical control placement and an easy to operate layout. Again, nothing flashy to be seen here, just good old-fashion design that manages to work extremely well.
Of course, the interior is not without its highpoints and EX-L models are particularly plush. And with three rows of seating, there’s also a great deal of interior space to toy around with. Comfort levels are good, too. Occupants in either three rows are treated to plenty of head, leg, and shoulder room.
If maximum cargo space is what you’re after, the 2015 Honda Pilot provides up to 87 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats stowed. And for smaller items, there are plenty of thoughtful storage bins and pockets throughout the cabin.
Safety
Safety remains a priority to Honda, which is why every model is made up of the automaker’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure designed to enhance occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. Additionally, Every 2015 Honda Pilot comes standard with antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and, front seat active head restraints. A rearview camera is also standard, while parking sensors are included with the Touring trim.
Bottom Line
In a sea of attention-seeking SUVs, the 2015 Honda Pilot places more emphasis on solid performance and segment-defining utility. It’s three row, eight-passenger cabin provides more than enough space for passengers, while its thoughtful cabin has enough nooks and crannies to fill with virtually anything you could imagine. Couple those qualities with a workhorse-like V6, excellent fuel economy, and Honda’s renowned reliability, and what you’re left with is one compelling midsize SUV.
While we don’t doubt you’re already impressed by the 2015 Honda Pilot’s capabilities, the only thing left to do is contact or stop by our dealership and schedule a test drive.
